Edition 9: SAO: Ordinal Scale, Blue Exorcist, Trickster, and more
This week there are a few new anime announcements and Trickster gets a preview OVA. There are also more promo videos to upcoming anime series and films.
Zero Kara Hajimeru Mahō no Sho gets Anime
Kadokawa announced at the “Dengeki Bunko Aki no Saiten 2016” event that author Kakeru Kobashiri and illustrator Yoshinori Shizuma’s Zero Kara Hajimeru Mahō no Sho light novel series is getting a tv anime series that will premiere in spring 2017.
Tetsuo Hirakawa is directing the series at WHITE FOX. Ryosuke Kimiya and Daisuke Mataga are adapting Shizuma’s original character designs for animation. Infinite is producing the series. Yumiri Hanamori will star in the series as Zero, and Tsuyoshi Koyama will co-star as the mercenary. Additionally, Yō Taichi will play Albus.
The “grimoire fantasy” series follows a witch named Zero who is ignorant of the world and a half-beast half-human mercenary who longs to be human. Witches who practice sorcery exist in the world, however, in this era no one knows how about the art and study of witchcraft. Zero is going on a journey to search for a magical tome called “The Book of Zero” that hides a power that can destroy the world. The mercenary travels with her as her guard.
Tenshi no 3P! gets Anime
Kadokawa announced at the “Dengeki Bunko Aki no Saiten 2016” event that Ro-Kyu-Bu! light novel author Sagu Aoyama and illustrator Tinkle’s Tenshi no 3P! light novel series is getting a tv anime adaptation that will premiere in 2017.
Shinsuke Yanagi is directing the anime at anime studio project No.9. Takayuki Noguchi is adapting Tinkle’s original character designs for animation, and Go Zappa is both writing and overseeing the scripts. Lantis is producing the music.
The “loli pop comedy” light novel series follows Kyō Mekui, a high school student who tends to skip school due to a trauma in his past. Kyō secretly creates songs using vocal song synthesis software as his hobby. Three girls who just entered fifth grade — the crybaby Jun “Jun-tan” Gotō, the strong-willed Nozomi “Zomi” Momijidani, and the somewhat sleepy Sora “Kū” Kaneshiro who takes life at her own pace — email Kyō. These three girls, who were raised together like sisters since childhood, want Kyō to help them break into music in this “loli & pop symphony” story.
Trickster gets OVA
The official website of the Trickster tv anime announced that the anime will get a prequel OVA on December 22.
“OVA Episode 00” will have two parts for a total of 50 minutes of video. The first episode will focus on the past between Kogorō Akechi and the Fiend With Twenty Faces, while the second will focus on the Boy Detectives Club before Kobayashi and Hanazaki met.
SAO: Ordinal Scale PV
The official website for the Sword Art Online: Ordinal Scale anime film began streaming the film’s second teaser video. The video introduces the film’s new characters.
The film will open in Japan on February 18 in 150 theaters, and will play in about 1,000 theaters worldwide. The film’s all-new original story takes place after the Mother’s Rosario arc, which was the final arc depicted in the TV anime’s second season. Original light novel author Reki Kawahara is writing the new story for the film.

New Blue Exorcist PV
The official website for the Blue Exorcist: Kyoto Impure King Arc anime series began streaming the anime’s first full promo video. The video introduces the show’s new cast.
Koichi Hatsumi is replacing Tensai Okamura as the director of the new series at A-1 Pictures. Toshiya Ono is handling the series composition, replacing Ryota Yamaguchi. Keigo Sasaki is returning from the first season to design the characters, and he is also the chief animation director alongside Akira Takata. Shigeki Kawai is serving as assistant director. Hiroyuki Sawano is additionally returning to compose the music alongside newcomer Kohta Yamamoto.
The anime will adapt the “Kyoto Impure King Arc” that started in the fifth volume of Kazue Katō’s original manga. Viz Media describes the manga’s fifth volume as follows:
In the late Edo Period, a demon known as the Impure King killed thousands of people. After defeating the demon, the Knights of the True Cross kept its left eye safely sealed away on Academy grounds – but now someone has stolen it! Hearing the thief has taken a child hostage, Yukio and Rin go to help. The investigation and pursuit will lead Rin and his friends to Kyoto and involve them even deeper in a sinister plot! Yōjo Senki PV
The official website for the tv anime adaptation of author Carlo Zen and illustrator Shinobu Shinotsuki’s Yōjo Senki light novel series began streaming the anime’s teaser promo video. The anime now has the full title Yōjo Senki: Saga of Tanya the Evil.
The novel series centers on a young girl who fights on the frontlines in war. She has blonde hair, blue eyes, and nearly transparent white skin, and she flies through the air and mercilessly strikes down her opponents. Her name is Tanya Degurechov, and she speaks with a young girl’s lisp and commands the army. Tanya used to be one of Japan’s elite office workers, but because of a wrathful god, was reborn as a little girl. Tanya prioritizes optimization and career advancement above all, and she will become the most dangerous entity among the Imperial Army’s mages.
